Pelham Centenary Fundraising Scheme

This is the 96th year of operation for the 1st Ashtead Scout Group and we are starting to look ahead towards our Centenary in 2020. With our current 9 sections all operating from our HQ building, we are now starting to investigate whether, with more leaders, we could grow even more to meet the increased demand by young people for scouting in our area, if we could create more space within our HQ building and further develop our transportation needs.

Consequently, it gives me great pleasure to announce the start of the Pelham Centenary Fundraising Scheme.

We will be collecting additional voluntary donations gradually over the next four years and linking fund raising events to
this fund. We are also happy to take bequests from the Ashtead public but we are also extremely keen to involve local businesses who see the great benefits of Scouting to today’s young people.

We are working on our fund target which will enable the refurbishment of the current store room into a new troop room with appropriate facilities as well as the construction of a new single storey boathouse / stores building to the side of the current HQ building. We will also be looking at a third minibus.

1st Ashtead Scout Group delivers an exciting programme to more than 250 young people aged between 6 and 18 years. Our programme balances adventure with learning, and our young people develop practical skills, self confidence and leadership ability. This translates into responsible, capable and employable young citizens.

Scouting adventures are unforgettable. Our youngest beaver scouts will always remember their first night under canvas, their first campfire and their first ascent of our climbing wall. Cub scouts will remember the challenge of navigating on a hike, capsizing a kayak and lighting their first fire. Scouts will remember multi-day expeditions, sleeping under the stars and climbing their first genuine mountain. Explorer scouts experience international camping, extreme sports, and leadership training.

1st Ashtead is run by an expert and committed team of adult volunteers comprising leaders who work directly with young people, and a management team who run the group’s affairs. Apart from the satisfaction of making a difference, our volunteers benefit from reduced subscription fees and jumped waiting lists for their own children, as well as structured training.
